Learning To Draw
World of Warcraft Character
My first "Draw my WoW Char!" request. A Blood Elf priest.
Since the most important aspect of her personality was shyness, I tried various non-boastful poses:
I really wanted to do something with her right hand, kind of like biting her fingernails. You know, looking very shy.
Since it looked like she was eating something, or speaking into an invisible cellphone, I let her arm dangle down instead.
And then I closed her mouth, because it looked like she was saying something. Or like she had a stuffed nose.
I tried applying colors with Painter this time, to get that nice watercolor gradients. Yeah, well I failed miserably.
Back to the good old way of coloring, shading and highlighting:
Here you can see how paying extra attention to the highlights in the face and hair pay off:
I tried adding a whole lotta glowing effects, but they just sucked. Sucked big time!
Luckily my Painter skills were just about good enough to create a nice watercolor background. Just about.
For this piece I used Scriptographer, a plugin for Adobe Illustrator for which I wrote a script that gives me better control over the thickness of stylus-drawn lines.
