Learning To Draw

Introduction and whatnot

This is how I did the title banner for this site. I wanted to show different steps of the creation of a drawing: Me chewing on a pencil.

First I started off doing a lot of sketches of myself as a cartoon, since I haven't really found my style yet.

Then I create a few head forms in Illustrator and pick the best (second from the right).

The thumb needed a few tries.

I fill the colors in Flash, since Illustrator 10 has no live drawing function.

I create shadow lines in a seperate layer in Illustrator and use the pathfinder to create new areas.

This is the first version. Then I remembered I wear glasses. The "sketches" are not actual sketches, but drawn over the final version... kind of like retroactive sketches.

Since I liked the smiling me so much, I made a colored version too.

I scanned in ripped paper and put the drawings in a Photoshop layer applying "Multiply". I gave the colored image a dropshadow. Why? Just because I can.

Voila!
