Learning To Draw
Cartoon of a Friend
Another friend who had asked for a cartoon.
Suprisingly few sketches were needed this time.
The last one was the one I went with. The first version of the final drawing looked a bit too harmless (considering his interest in weapons and military), but nothing a few minor changes couldn't fix.
At first I had only planned on doing the face, but I really felt like giving him a body. Since he's about to create his own Star Wars armor, I put him in a Stormtrooper outfit. And since he likes creating replicates of Warhammer weapons, I gave him a bolter... though I didn't spend a lot of time on that one.
Here he is with color and with shading.
The same for the bolter. The typical red coloring would not have fitted to the overall picture.
And here's the finished version with background gradient.

For this piece I used Scriptographer, a plugin for Adobe Illustrator for which I wrote a script that gives me better control over the thickness of stylus-drawn lines.
