Chris Deutsch
Learning To Draw
This is how I created the introduction comic on the front page of this site, which replaced the short-lived introductory text of little entertainment value.
I started with very little sketching-on-paper this time, apparently because there were six Chris planned and I didn't feel like endlessly sketching every one of them. And I was satisfied with the character design from the title banner anyway.
So then I place the panels and sketch in every character rather roughly.
All following steps are very similar to those of my girlfriend-drawings, so I won't be going into much detail here.
Here are the drawings in color with colored lines and colored backgrounds, but a little too small.
So we just scale them a little (long live vector graphics, yay) and add some drop shadows.
At the end, I put some fancy fancy-stuff in the backgrounds and this is what the whole strip looks like in the end.

For this piece I used Scriptographer, a plugin for Adobe Illustrator for which I wrote a script that gives me better control over the thickness of stylus-drawn lines.
